Our “Jersey of the Month” is not a race jersey, but one from the Penticton Triathlon Club in British Columbia. The PTC jersey is hanging proudly at MMC thanks to one of our many Canadian friends. Unfortunately, we have not been able to see most of them this winter because of the pandemic travel restrictions, so I thought a “shout out” to them was in order.
For those that don’t know, Penticton is a prominent town in the triathlon world. Nestled on the south shore of Okanagan Lake, it was the sight of the original Ironman Canada. It was there in 1989, that I competed in my very first Ironman and fell in love with the Okanagan Valley. With neighbors like Kelowna, Vernon, and even Revelstoke to the far north, Penticton and the Okanagan Valley seem to have it all. Spectacular cycling, running, skiing, hiking and every other imaginable outdoor sport are a big part of the valley scene, as are the many vineyards, wineries, and other activities that attract folks from throughout the world. It really is a beautiful area.
That said, “winter is winter” and so we have lots of friends from the area that come join us in the desert in the winter and we love having them around…and…we miss them this year. To Bob, Sandi, Guinness, Emma, Dalton, Kikkan, Breck, Tom, Susan and all of the rest of our Canadian friends, be safe and we hope to see you soon. Pedal Well.
