RAGBRAI

This month, we are featuring a jersey for an event that many of us may not know much about, the RAGBRAI.  If you are like me and are wondering what the heck a RAGBRAI is, it’s quite simple. The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, RAGBRAI.

You also might not know that the RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest and longest recreational bicycle touring event in the world.  Started in 1973, by two Des Moines Register columnists, the event is a seven-day ride across the state of Iowa.

It has become an Iowa tradition and attracts thousands of riders and volunteers. The RAGBRAI is an event, not a race.  It starts at the western border of Iowa on the Missouri river and covers almost 500 miles to the eastern border on the Mississippi River. Host communities along the route provide riders with good ole Midwestern hospitality.

We proudly have the RAGBRAI jersey hanging in MMC and we are proud to have a few of our ride crew that have done this amazing event. Most notably, MMC ambassadors, Joe and Jamie Brown are RAGBRAI alumni.
