November was a busy month for all of us at MMC and for our MMC Ride Crew.
We started the month with Harry and Heidi Johnson competing in the La Ruta de los Conquistadores mountain bike race down in Costa Rica. La Ruta, as it is commonly called, is one of the most challenging mtb races in the world with a combination of everything from very steep, muddy terrain in the lower altitude jungle and rain forest to high altitude volcanic trails through the ever-present rain, mist and clouds of the cloud forest. After three days, the race ended on the hot and humid playa de Limon’ on the Caribbean coast of the country.
Meanwhile, back in AZ, the All Hallow’s Eve MMC Scavenger Hunt was going on out at McDowell Mountain Park. We had a great turnout for the event which combined our TNR (Tuesday Night Ride) and the Women with Wine Wednesday Night MTB ride.
The MMC Tuesday night, Wednesday night, Saturday morning and Sunday Noon ride were in full swing during November, with record numbers of folks. Our Sunday FunDay gravel bike rides continued to be particularly popular with fun routes, fun people and beer on tap from our local Bone Haus Brewing. Come join us on any of these great rides.
Lady’s Night at MMC drew almost 30 ladies to the shop for an evening of socializing and education. The clinic-oriented night taught things like fixing flat tires and putting your dropped chain back on your bike. MMC Ambassador,Evie Racette, and LIV Ambassador, Sue Rawley, did a spectacular job at making it educational and fun. Special thanks to them and all the ladies that helped make the Lady’s Night so special.
We also had some great MMC local racing with Gary Brand and Mike Hicks crushing it at the Cave Creek Classic. Harry and Joe Brown put in over 100 miles solo, Jeff Huntley and his team mate had a great duo team and Renee Keaty teamed up with three other ladies to make the podium, all at the 12 Hours of Fury mountain bike race. We had a great support team at the race, including Tyson and Brock. Thanks to all.
The finale of our great month of November was the Fountain Hills Thanksgiving Day Parade and our “Cycling Santas”. We gave out over a thousand candy canes and almost a hundred Santa hats to kids along the parade route and had a terrific time being part of our small-town parade. It was a great way to end our month and say “Thanks” to all our fellow riders and supporters.
