It’s time to continue our All-Women’s Ride Series with this year’s Summer Ride! In case you missed it, MMC is supporting an all-female ride series to give back to our great riding community and to encourage more women to enjoy our sport.

We’re designing fun routes and supporting the ladies with on-road SAG stops, including nutrition and bike maintenance. And high-fives. The first 2 rides were a blast and although the temps are rising, we think this one will be pretty great, too.

For the course, we’re going to do a version of the first one, mainly because Bush Highway just got repaved and GOT A BIKE LANE! Yep, it’s one of the most beautiful roads in Arizona but avoided by many cyclists because of its rough asphalt and lack of a shoulder. Not anymore.

UPDATE 6/4/16: We spoke to MCDOT about the bike lane construction on Bush Highway and it’s not getting done until this fall. Considering the heavy lake traffic and no shoulder on Bush, we’ve changed the route for this ride. We are going to ride clockwise around the McDowells and hit a few roads not typically on that route. Should be a blast!

UPDATE 6/10/16: I rode the route and discovered that the first section on 128th is not novice-friendly. It has ruts and sandy sections, so today I changed the route to the one below. It only changes the section around Pinnacle Peak and the Troon area, the rest is the same.

The latest weather forecast is sunny and a low of 70 and a high of 104… about 10 degrees cooler than today, so that’s good! But hey, it’s a summer ride, so it’ll be hot either way which is why we’re starting early! The sun rise is at 5:15, so we’re going to roll at 6:00.

The ride is planned for June 12, 2016. It starts and ends at MMC. Check the map below for the route and you can click here for the stats on the course.

Check back often for more info on the ride. Can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces!
