Since retiring in July, 2015, my wife and I have been spending most of our time in Durango, Colorado. Durango has a reputation for being a mountain bike town with many big name pros past and current living in the area. We live 10 miles north of Durango in the Hermosa area.
I had the good fortune to spend my summer in Colorado and explore some incredible areas across the state, Colorado has a lot of offer.
I love riding in and around Fountain Hills and that is a big part of why Diane and I choose to live there. Fortunately, there is another very similar place Bozeman, Montana.

We knew our Summer Ride would be our tough one, so when we got such a great turnout of awesome riders, new and experienced, we were pumped.
One of our goals in starting McDowell Mountain Cycles has been to help people rediscover what great exercise and good fun riding bikes is. Part of the allure of it is being outside and not stuck indoors like we are for much of each day, but being outside brings certain challenges when the weather turns on us.
Bikepacking is like backpacking, except that you have the majority of your gear on your bike. At the shop, we’d been talking about exploring this for a while and decided to do a maiden voyage overnight trip to Seven Springs.
